Devastation is my oldest game on the website.  I was fresh out of high school and just starting the work on my Associate’s Degree when I started working on in the fall of 2016.  At the time,I knew very little about Photoshop or other graphic design software.  As a result,  every image in the game was drawn in FLASH.  The game  was inspired by the original Legend of Zelda and other older adventure games.

Despite its appearance, this game was very code heavy for me at the time.  An example from the game-play would be the players interaction with the  merchant who sells the Hero boots.  The merchant is offering the player a speed boosting item; however, unless the player is the Extortion Class they will not have enough cash to purchase them.  The player could kill the merchant and get the boots for free but doing so raises their evil meter.  At the end of the game, you can only win if your good meter is higher than your evil meter.  These kinds of mechanics that build off each other have become a staple in a lot of my games and it all came from this first games design. The game also includes mechanics such as a class system, morality system, item based leveling, hidden paths, and a logic puzzle.

The reason I’m including Devastation on my website is because during the development of this game, I fell in LOVE with game design, and to this day I come back to Devastation from time to time to see how far I’ve come.  If you would like to play Devastation make sure you have flash player installed and download the compressed folder at this (LINK).  Extract the folder to your desktop and open the .html file.
